[Review] The National - High Violet (English)


With their fifth album, The National continues to surprise and releasing great albums. "High Violet" is probably their best album since "Alligator", from 2005.

This album begins with "Terrible Love," a song that was criticized for the way it was recorded. Nevertheless, it is a great song that gets even better when it’s played live. Then come "Sorrow" and "Anyone's Ghost," both great songs, although with slightly sad lyrics, while "Little Faith" is a song that conveys some hope. Then comes "Afraid Of Everyone" with enigmatic lyrics, although we can realize that this song is a strong criticism of the media: "Venom radio and venom television, I'm afraid of everyone."

After this, come the best two songs on the album, "Bloodbuzz Ohio", which was described by the website "One Thirty BPM" as the simplest, but at the same time more powerful moment of the album, and "Lemonworld. About this song, singer Matt Berninger said: "Lemonworld is an invented, sexy, weird place where you can escape from New York."

Then comes the calm "Runaway" and the brilliant "Conversation 16," a song about youth. For me, it’s other great moment of "High Violet."

This album ends with "England" and "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks," a perfect song to end this "High Violet," which was undoubtedly one of the great albums of 2010.

[Review] The National - High Violet (Português)


Ao quinto álbum, os americanos The National continuam a surpreender e a lançar grandes álbuns. “High Violet”, provavelmente, o melhor álbum da banda desde “Alligator”, de 2005.
                                                          
Este álbum começa com “Terrible Love”, uma música que foi criticada devido à maneira como foi gravada. Apesar disto, é uma grande música, que ao vivo se torna ainda melhor. De seguida vêm “Sorrow” e “Anyone’s Ghost”, duas excelentes músicas, embora com letras um pouco tristes, embora sendo seguidas por “Little Faith” que é uma música que transmite alguma esperança. Segue-se “Afraid Of Everyone”, com uma letra enigmática, embora se perceba uma forte crítica aos meios de comunicação social, “Venom radio and venom television, I’m afraid of everyone”.

Seguem-se depois as duas melhores músicas do álbum, “Bloodbuzz Ohio”, que foi descrita pelo site “One Thirty BPM” como o momento mais simples, mas ao mesmo tempo mais poderoso do álbum, e “Lemonworld”. Acerca desta música, o vocalista Matt Berninger afirmou: "A Lemonworld is an invented, sexy, weird place where you can escape from New York”.

Depois vêm a calminha “Runaway” e a brilhante “Conversation 16”, uma música sobre a juventude e que é para mim outro grande momento de “High Violet”.

[Review] White Lies - Ritual (English)

After a great debut album, "To Lose My Life ', the bar was too high for and White Lies and, although not at the level of the first album, "Ritual" did not disappoint.

The album begins with "Love Is" which, despite being a good opening song, can’t be compared to "Death", the opening song of the previous album and which is probably the best song of White Lies.

Then comes "Strangers", a song that, without a doubt, is one of the best from this band. It is, in my opinion the best song on this album. "Bigger Than Us" ends the first major set of good songs on this album, because after that song comes "Peace & Quite", which is a relatively weak song in comparison with any of the others in this album.

Then comes "Streetlights", which, despite being a song about problems such as fear or boredom, makes us instantly forget the previous song.
"Holy Ghost" is another highlight of this disc, along with "Strangers". This song is a particularly puzzling, since it is very difficult to understand its meaning.

“The Power & The Glory", which at first glance may be construed to give a great song is actually very weak and I honestly can’t understand its inclusion on the album, as with "Peace & Quiet”.

"Bad Love" and "Come Down" close this album that doesn’t disappoint those who like the band, although it is understandable that falls a little short of expectations of some more demanding people.

[Review] White Lies - Ritual (Português)

Depois de um grande álbum de estreia, “To Lose My Life”, a fasquia estava muito elevada para os White Lies e, apesar de não estar ao nível do primeiro álbum, “Ritual” não desapontou.

O álbum começa com “Is Love” que, apesar de ser uma boa música de abertura, não se compara a “Death”, a música de abertura do álbum anterior e que é, provavelmente, a melhor música dos White Lies.
Depois vem “Strangers”, uma música, sem dúvida ao nível das melhores desta banda. É, na minha opinião, a melhor música deste álbum. “Bigger Than Us” termina a primeira grande sequência de boas músicas neste álbum, porque de seguida vem “Peace & Quite” que é sem dúvida uma música relativamente fraca, se compararmos com qualquer uma das outras deste álbum.
A seguir vem “Streetlights” que, apesar de ser uma música sobre problemas como o medo ou o tédio, nos faz imediatamente esquecer a música anterior.
“Holy Ghost” é o outro momento alto deste disco, a par de “Strangers”. Esta é uma música particularmente enigmática, já que é muito difícil de entender o seu significado.
“The Power & The Glory” que à primeira vista pode dar entender ser uma grande música é, na realidade, muito fraca e não se compreende a sua inclusão neste álbum, tal como aconteceu com “Peace & Quiet”.
“Bad Love” e “Come Down” encerram este álbum que não desilude quem gosta da banda, embora seja compreensível que fique um pouco aquém das expectativas de algumas pessoas mais exigentes.

[Review] Radiohead - The King Of Limbs (English)


"The King Of Limbs" was announced about a week ago and, after a long week for fans of Radiohead, it is finally available online.
Although this waiting, I think anyone who likes this band will be a little disappointed with this album, which is far from the level of other Radiohead albums.

 The first song, "Bloom”, isn’t definitely a good choice to start. Then come, "Morning Mr. Magpie" and "Little By Little", which is probably the best song on this album.
Then come “Lotus Flower”, the first song on this album to be revealed and a song that is in the same level as "Little By Little", "Codex”, a really calm and beautiful song, and "Give Up The Ghost. "
Finally comes "Separator" that, like "Bloom", which wasn’t a good song to start, wasn’t a good choice to finish this album.

After all, I think this album is good, although it’s far from the level of other albums of this British band.

“The King Of Limbs” foi anunciado há cerca de uma semana e, depois de uma longa semana para os fans dos Radiohead, finalmente está disponível online.
Apesar desta espera, penso que quem gosta desta banda vai ficar um pouco desiludido com esta álbum, que está longe do nível de outros dos Radiohead.

A primeira música, “Bloom”, não foi definitivamente uma boa escolha para começar. De seguida vêm, “Morning Mr. Magpie” e “Little By Little”, que é provavelmente a melhor música deste álbum.
Depois seguem-se Lotus Flower”, a primeira música deste álbum a ser revelada e que está ao nível de “Little By Little”, “Codex”, uma música muito calma e bela, e “Give Up The Ghost”.
Por fim vem “Separator” que, tal como “Bloom”, que não foi uma boa música para começar, também esta não foi uma boa escolha para terminar este álbum.

Apesar de tudo, considero que este álbum é bom, embora estando longe do nível de outros álbuns desta banda britânica.

[Review] Fake Problems - "Real Ghosts Caught On Tape" (English)


"Real Ghosts Caught On Tape" is the name of the third album by American band Fake Problems and is also the name of the best album of this band.

The album begins with the brilliant "ADT", followed by the not so good "5678." Then comes, as the name implies, a song for the young. "Songs For Teenagers" is a song that portrays the experiences of the vast majority of young people.

Next come "RSVP" and "Soulless" which, along with "ADT" is the best song on this album.

Until the end of the disc there are excellent songs like "Done With Fun," "The Magazines" and "Grand Finale", ending with the calm "Ghost To Coast." This was a curious choice to close this album, as all the other songs have a lively and cheerful sound, while the latter song is much calmer.

Overall, I think this was one of the greatest albums of 2010, without a single bad song on it, and I think this band deserves more recognition than they have nowadays.

“Real Ghosts Caught On Tape” é o nome do terceiro álbum da banda americana Fake Problems e é também o nome do melhor álbum desta banda.

O álbum começa com a brilhante “ADT”, seguida pela não tão boa “5678”. Seguidamente vem, como o nome indica, uma música para os jovens. “Songs For Teenagers” é uma música que retrata bem as experiências vividas pela grande maioria dos jovens.

A seguir vêm “RSVP” e “Soulless” que, a par de “ADT”, é a melhor música deste álbum.

Até ao fim do disco existem excelentes músicas como “Done With Fun”, “The Magazines” e “Grand Finale”, acabando com a calminha “Ghost To Coast”. Esta foi uma escolha curiosa para fechar este álbum, já que todas as outras músicas têm uma sonoridade animada e alegre, enquanto que esta última música é bem mais calma.

No geral, considero que este foi um dos grandes álbuns de 2010, sem que houvesse uma música má nele, e penso que esta banda já merecia mais reconhecimento do que aquele que tem actualmente.
