Pearl Jam - Alive

"Son," she said, "have I got a little story for you...
What you thought was your daddy was nothin' but a...
While you were sittin' home alone at age thirteen
your real daddy was dyin'.
Sorry you didn't see him, but I'm glad we talked..."

Oh I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey, I, I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey...oh...

Oh, she walks slowly, across a young man's room.
She said "I'm ready...for you..."
"I can't remember anything of this very day,
'cept the look, the look...
Oh, you know where, now I can't see, I just stare..."

I, I'm still alive
Hey I, but, I'm still alive
Hey I, boy, I'm still alive
Hey I, I, I, I'm still alive, yeah
Ooh yeah...yeah yeah yeah...oh...oh...

"Is something wrong?" she said
Of course there is
"You're still alive," she said
Oh, and do I deserve to be?
Is that the question?
And if so...if so...who answers...who answers...?

I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, but, I'm still alive
Yeah I, ooh, I'm still alive
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

The Veils - Grey Lynn Park

Though they say no heart can break
There ain't no end to trouble two can make
Been through a thousand yesterdays
Not every step I can retrace

Now I'm walking in the dark
In Grey Lynn Park

I was born and then I died
Don't keep no record of either side
But somehow I lose these thoughts with ease
Under Pohutukawa trees

I'm walking in the dark
Of Grey Lynn Park

The Who to release 'Quadrophenia: The Director's Cut' boxset

The Who have announced that they will release their classic 1973 rock opera 'Quadrophenia' as a special 'Director's Cut' boxset later this year.

Guitarist Pete Townshend revealed that he had been overseeing work on ‘Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut’, which will be released on November 14 and will include previously unheard demos, an exclusive eight-track 5.1 Sound DVD, a deluxe hard-back book, previously unseen personal notes, photographs, and other memorabilia that is yet to be revealed. The album will also be re-released in double vinyl, 2-disc digi-pak and digital versions.

Townshend said: "This 2011 revisit to The Who's 1973 'Quadrophenia' recording is inspired by current and continuing interest in the project. The Who performed a concert version of the piece at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 for the Teenage Cancer Trust with excellent reviews, and the success of that event led to the prospect of a Who tour in 2012 based on the album. The last such tour was between 1996-1997."

Whiskeytown - Houses On The Hill

well i found a bunch of letters
that were written for the fella who broke your momma's heart
and the envelope folds, smelled of her ancient perfume
i'll bet she didn't know
how to respond before the blankets of snow
caught him out wandering alone
with no place to go

there were stars in the sky
there were houses on the hill
and there bottles of pills that were easy to buy
to keep her warm from the oncoming storm

well i found them in the northwest corner of the attic in a box
labeled "tinsel and lights"
didn't know what i was i looking for
maybe just a blanket or artifacts
eisenhower sent him to war
he kept her picture in his pocket that was closest to his heart
and when he hit shore
must have been a target for the gunman

there were stars in the sky
there were bunkers on the hill and there were caskets to fill
where he will lie
shrouded in the red white and blue with the stripes

there were stars in the sky
there were houses on the hill
and there were bottles of pills that were easy to buy
to keep her warm from the oncoming storm

Kasabian - Days Are Forgotten (new song)

The Postelles - Sleep On The Dance Floor

All your little problems?
Well, they're overblown.
And you think I'll solve them?
Well I can't, and I won't.

So won't you take me out tonight?
'Cause I think you'll just stay in and cry, and I'll feel better than you've ever felt before.

But you say, "People, they always get lost at night,"
And I was just looking for all, not right.
So don't you come knockin' down my front door
'cause I fell asleep on the dancefloor tonight.

So I move so quickly,
Yet I fall behind.
But when things get heavy,
I tend to just make them light.

Oh, now I'll do anything I'm told to except anything that I won't do
And that makes everything we've ever done before.

But you say, "People they always get lost at night,"
And I was just looking for all, not right.
So don't you come knockin' down my front door
'cause I fell asleep on the dancefloor tonight.
Woah, no.

'Cause I fell asleep on the dancefloor.
Fell asleep on the dancefloor.
Oh, now I'll do anything I'm told to except anything that I won't do
And that makes everything we've ever done before.

Arctic Monkeys set to release new track with Miles Kane next month

Arctic Monkeys are set to release a new B-side featuring a guest appearance from Miles Kane.

The track, which is titled 'Little Illusion Machine (Wirral Riddler)', will appear as the B-side to the band's new single 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala', which comes out on August 15.

'Little Illusion Machine (Wirral Riddler)' is credited to Miles Kane and The Death Ramps, with the latter being a pseudonym the Sheffield band have recorded under in the past.

'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala' is the second track to be taken from 'Suck It And See', after the earlier release of 'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair'.

The Horrors - Who Can Say

I never meant for you to get hurt
and how I try, oh how I try
I could never give you just what you deserve
another man would surely learn

I know these words may only serve to twist the knife
but I'll strive to make them heard
maybe it's better now I've gone away
maybe it's not, oh who can say

and though it's hard for me to say
I know you're better off this way

and when i told her I didn't love her anymore
she cried
and when I told her her kisses were not like before
she cried
and when I told her another girl had caught my eye
she cried
and then I kissed her with a kiss
that could only mean goodbye

and though it's hard for me to say
maybe you're better off this way
and though it's hard for me to say
I know you're better off this way

get away

Interpol - Evil

Rosemary
Heaven restores you in life
You're coming with me
Through the aging, the fearing, the strife
It's the smiling on the package
It's the faces in the sand
It's the thought that moves you upwards
Embracing me with two hands
Right will take you places
Yeah maybe to the beach
When your friends they do come crying
Tell them now your pleasure's set upon slow-release

Hey wait
Great smile
sensitive to fate not
Denial
But hey who's on trial?

It took a life spent with no cellmate
The long way back
Saying, "hey why can't we look the other way?"

we speaks about travel
Yeah, we think about the land
We smart like all peoples
Feeling real tan
I could take you places
Do you need a new man?
Wipe the pollen from the faces
Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van

Hey wait
Great smile
sensitive to fate not
Denial
But hey who's on trial?

It took a life spent with no cellmate
To find the long way back
Saying, "hey why can't we look the other way?"
You're weightless, you are exotic
You need something for which to care
Saying, "hey why can't we look the other way?"

Some shards under the belly
Lay some grease inside my hand
It's a sentimental jury
And the makings of a good plan
You've come to love me lightly
Yeah you've come to hold me tight
Is this motion everlasting
Or do shutters pass in the night?

Rosemary
Oh heaven restores you in life
I spent a lifespan with no cellmate
The long way back
Saying, "hey why can't we look the other way?"
You're weightless, semi-erotic
You need someone to take you there
Saying, "hey why can't we look the other way?"
Why can't we just play the other game?
Why can't we just look the other way?

Oasis - Who Feels Love

Found what I lost inside
My spirit has been purified
Take a thorn from my pride
And hand in hand we'll take a walk outside

Thank you for the sun the one that shines on everyone
Who feels love
Now there's a million years between my fantasies and fears
I feel love

I'm leaving all that I see
Now all my emotions fill the air I breathe

Now you understand that this is not the promised land they spoke of
There's nothing more to be if you can be the remedy who heals love

I thank you for the sun the one that shines on everyone
Who feels love
Now there's a million years between my fantasies and fears
I feel love
I thank you for the sun the one that shines on everyone
who feels love
Now there's a million years between my fantasies and fears
I feel love

Noel Gallagher - The Death Of You And Me (new song - video + lyrics)

The Chief is back with a great song, "The Death Of You And Me". You can listen to this new song and watch the video below.

High tide, summer in the city,
The kids are looking pretty,
But isn't it a pity,
That the sunshine is followed by thunder,
And thoughts of going under,
And is it any wonder,
When is calling out to me.

I seem to spend my whole life running,
From people who would be,
The death of you and me,
'Cause I can feel the storm clouds,
Sucking up my soul.

High tide, life is getting faster,
No one has the answer,
I try to face the day now in a new way
The bottom of the bottom
'Cause every man's a puzzle

Let's run away together you and me,
Forever we'd be free,
Free to spend our whole lives running,
From people who would be,
The death of you and me,
'Cause I can feel the storm clouds,
Sucking up my soul.

Let's run away to sea,
Forever we'd be free,
Free to spend our whole lives running,
From people who would be,
The death of you and me,
'Cause I can feel the storm clouds coming.

I'm watching my TV,
Or is it watching me?
I see another new day dawning,
It's rising over me, with my mortality,
And I can feel the storm clouds,
Sucking up my soul.

Hate to say I told you so.
Alright.
Come on.

Do believe I told you so.
Now it's all out and you knew,
'Cause I wanted to.
Turn my back on the rot that's been planning the plot because I'm gonna.

Amy Winehouse - Love Is A Losing Game

For you I was a flame
Love is a losing game
Five story fire as you came
Love is a losing game

Why do I wish I never played
Oh, what a mess we made
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game

Played out by the band
Love is a losing hand
More than I could stand
Love is a losing hand

Self professed... profound
Till the chips were down
...know you're a gambling man
Love is a losing hand

Though I'm rather blind
Love is a fate resigned
Memories mar my mind
Love is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game

Amy Winehouse is dead

The British police confirmed that singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her home, in London. Officially there's no explanation for her death, but Sky News says it was caused by an overdose.

For me, Amy Winehouse was one of the most influencing artists of the last decade, not because of the scandals but because of her great music. She had two albuns, "Frank" and "Back To Black".

Rest in Peace Amy!

Beirut - Nantes

Well it's been a long time, long time now
Since I've seen you smile
And I'll gamble away my fright
And I'll gamble away my time
And in a year, a year or so
This will slip into the sea
Well it's been a long time, long time now
Since I've seen you smile

Nobody raise your voices
Just another night in Nantes
Nobody raise your voices
Just another night in Nantes

(- Oh please, no, we're not at home.
- I'm telling you, it's all right.
- No, let me go!
- What is wrong with you today?
- I only know that men disgust me. You all just think about one thing....)

Well it's been a long time, long time now
Since I've seen you smile
And I'll gamble away my fright
And I'll gamble away my time
And in a year, a year or so
This will slip into the sea
Well it's been a long time, long time now
Since I've seen you smile

Green Day - Whatsername

Thought I ran into you down on the street,
Then it turned out to only be a dream,
I made a point to burn all of the photographs,
She went away and then I took a different path,
I remember the face, but I can't recall the name,
Now I wonder how whatshername has been...

Seems that she disappeared without a trace,
Did she ever marry ole whatshisface,
I made a point to burn all of the photographs,
She went away and then I took a different path,
I remember the face, but I can't recall the name,
Now I wonder how whatshername has been...

Remember, whatever,
It seems like forever ago!
Remember, whatever,
It seems like forever ago!
The regrets are useless,
In my mind,
She's in my head,
I must confess!
The regrets are useless,
In my mind,
She's in my head,
From so long ago!
(Go... go... go... go...)
(Go... go... go... go... go...)
Remember in the darkest night,
If my memory serves me right,
I'll never turn back time!
Forgetting you, but not the time!

The Smiths - Panic

Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again ?
The Leeds side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Grasmere
But Honey Pie, you're not safe here
So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's Panic on the streets of Carlisle
Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
I wonder to myself

Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music that they constantly play
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music they constantly play

On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down
Provincial towns you jog 'round
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ

The Strokes: 'We're back in the recording studio already'

The Strokes have revealed they are already back in studio and are recording the follow up to fourth album 'Angles', which was released earlier this year.

Speaking exclusively to NME, bassist Nikolai Fraiture said that the band had already done "a little bit" of recording.

He said: "We already went back (in the studio) a little bit. When we have a couple of week off time off we also go back into the studio to see how things progress and not leave them (too long)."
The bassist added: "I don't think it's 'urgent' in the way that we feel pushed. It's 'urgent' in the way we want to work on music and keep the up momentum that we've managed to build up to now."

Fraiture added that band relations were good, saying: "Right now everyone's getting along, we're all travelling together, it's a good vibe."

Buckcherry - Crazy Bitch

All right!

Break me down, you got a lovely face
We're going to your place
And now you got to freak me out
Scream so loud, getting fuckin' laid
You want me to stay, but I got to make my way

Hey
You're crazy bitch
But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it
When I dream, I'm doing you all night
Scratches all down my back to keep me right on

Hey
You're crazy bitch
But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it
When I dream, I'm doing you all night
Scratches all down my back to keep me right on

Take it all, the paper is your game
You jump in bed with fame
Another one night paid in full, uh
You're so fine, it won't be a loss
Cashing in the rocks, just to get you face to face

Get the video
fuck you so good
Get the video
fuck you so good

Crazy bitch
Crazy bitch
Crazy...bitch

Hey
You're crazy bitch
But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it
When I dream, I'm doing you all night
Scratches all down my back to keep me right on

Hey
You're crazy bitch
But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it
When I dream, I'm doing you all night
Scratches all down my back, come on

Baby girl
You want it all
To be a star
You'll have to go down
Take it off
No need to talk
You're crazy
But I like the way you fuck me

Hey
You're crazy bitch
But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it
When I dream, I'm doing you all night
Scratches all down my back to keep me right on

Hey
You're crazy bitch
But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it
When I dream, I'm doing you all night
Scratches all down my back to keep me right on
You keep me right on

You're crazy
But I like the way you fuck me

The image above is the cover of the first single taken from Noel Gallagher's debut album, "High Flying Birds".

This single will feature the song "The Good Rebel".

Nominations for the Mercury Music Prize

The nominees for this year's Mercury Music Prize are:

Anna Calvi - 'Anna Calvi'
Elbow - 'Build A Rocket Boys!'
James Blake - 'James Blake'
Katy B - 'On A Mission'
Metronomy - 'The English Riviera'
Tinie Tempah - 'Disc-Overy'
PJ Harvey - 'Let England Shake'
Gwilym Simcock - 'Good Days At Schloss Elmau'
Everything Everything - 'Man Alive'
Ghostpoet - 'Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam'
King Creosote and Jon Hopkins - 'Diamond Mine'
Adele - '21'

The successful album will receive a £20,000 prize after being selected an elite panel of industry experts. The winner will be announced on September 6, during a ceremony, hosted, once again, by Jools Holland.

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize was won in 2010 by The xx for their self-titled debut album.

My favourite album to win this year is 'Build A Rocket Boys!', by Elbow. It would be really unfair if they didn't win, although it's highly possible that PJ Harvey or Adele can with the award too.

Anna Calvi - Jezebel

Jezebel.
Jezebel.
If ever the devil was born,
Without a pair of horns

It was you,
Jezebel, it was you.
If ever an angel fell,
Jezebel, It was you.

Jezebel, it was you.
If ever a pair of eyes,
Promised paradise.
Deceiving me, grieving me,
Leavin' me blue.

Jezebel, it was you.
If ever the devil's plan,
Was made to torment man,
It was you, Jezebel, it was you.

'Twould be better I had I never known,
A lover such as you.
Forsaking dreams and all,
For the siren call of your arms.
Like a demon, love possessed me,

You obsessed me constantly.
What evil star is mine,
That my fate's design,
Should be Jezebel?
If ever a pair of eyes,

Promised paradise.
Deceiving me, grieving me,
Leavin' me blue.
Jezebel, it was you.
If ever the devil's plan,

Was made to torment man,
It was you,
Night an' day, every way.
Oh, Jezebel, Jezebel, Jezebel.

Rage Against The Machine - Bullet In The Head

This time the bullet cold rocked you
A yellow ribbon instead of a swastika
Nothin' profitable about your propaganda
Fools follow rules when the set commands you
Said it was blue
When the blood was red
That's how you got a bullet blasted through your head

Blasted through your head
Blasted through your head

I give a shout out to the living dead
Who stood and watched as the feds cold centralized
So serene on the screen
You was mesmerised
Cellular phones soundin' a death tone
Corporations cold
Turn you to stone before you realise
They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire at their prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And motherfuckers lost their minds

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Run it!

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Checka, checka, check it out
They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And motherfuckers lost their minds

No escape from the mass mind rape
Play it again jack and then rewind the tape
And then play it again and again and again
Until your mind is locked in
Believin' all the lies that they're tellin' you
Buyin' all the products that they're sellin' you
They say jump and you say how high
You're brain-dead
You've gotta fuckin' bullet in your head

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Uggh! Yeah! Yea!

(You're) Standin' in line
Believin' the lies
(You're) bowin' down to the flag
You got a bullet in your head

(You're) Standin' in line
Believin' the lies
(You're) Bowin' down to the flag
You got a bullet in your head

A bullet in your head
A bullet in your head
A bullet in your head
A bullet in your head
A bullet in your head
A bullet in your head
A bullet in your head
A bullet in your head
A bullet in your head!
A bullet in your head!
A bullet in your head!
A bullet in your head!
A bullet in your head!

Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Finished with my woman 'cause she couldn't help me with my mind
People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time

All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy
Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify

Can you help me?
are you for my brain,
Oh yeah

I need someone to show me the things in life that I can't find
I can't see the things that make true happiness I must be blind

Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel so love to me is so unreal

And so as you hear these words telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life I wish I could but it's too late

The Kooks - Seaside

Do you want to go to the seaside?
I'm not trying to say that everybody wants to go
I fell in love at the seaside
I handled my charm with time and slight of hand

Do you want to go to the seaside?
I'm not trying to say that everybody wants to go
I fell in love at the seaside
She handled her charm with time and slight of hand, and oh

But I'm just trying to love you
In any kind of way
But I find it hard to love you girl
When you're far away
Away

Do you want to go to the seaside?
I'm not trying to say that everybody wants to go
But I fell in love on the seaside
On the seaside
In the seaside

Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor tells fans not to buy 'Pretty Hate Machine' reissue'

Nine Inch Nails mainman Trent Reznor has told fans not to waste their money buying the latest reissue of their debut album 'Pretty Hate Machine'.

The singer took to Twitter to urge people to "ignore" the new re-release, which he criticised for being a "record label bullshit move."

Nine Inch Nails originally released 'Pretty Hate Machine' in 1989, but Reznor worked with sound engineer Tom Baker on a remastered version of the LP which was released in November last year. It also featured a new track, a cover of Queen’s 'Get Down, Make Love', which featured as the B-side of their 1990 single 'Sin'.
Reznor posted a message on Twitter which read: "NIN fans, don’t waste your money on this version of PHM that was just released", followed by a link to the band’s online catalogue, which describes it as being "very similar to the original release. This is not a remastered release."

He then described it as "a record label bullshit move repackaging the old version. Ignore please."

Earlier this year, Reznor revealed that he was preparing to work under the Nine Inch Nails moniker again. Although he claimed in 2009 that he would be winding down live performances with the band, he said: "Nine Inch Nails is not dead and I plan to focus on that next."

Bright Eyes - At The Bottom Of Everything

So there was this woman and she was on an airplane,
and she was flying to meet her fiance seaming high above the largest ocean on planet earth.
She was seated next to this man she had tried to start conversations,
but the only thing she had really heard him say was to order his Bloody Mary.
She was sitting there and she was reading this really arduous magazine article about a third world country
that she couldn't even pronounce the name of.
And she was feeling very bored and despondent.
And then suddenly there was this huge mechanical failure and one of the engines gave out,
and they started just falling thirty-thousand feet,
and the pilots on the microphone and he's saying "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, oh my god... I'm sorry" and apologizing.
And she looks at the man and says "Where are we going?" and he looks at her and he says "We're going to a party.
It's a birthday party. It's your birthday party.
Happy birthday darling. We love you very, very, very, very, very, very, very much."
And then he starts humming this little tune, it kind of goes like this: 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4

We must talk in every telephone
Get eaten off the web
We must rip out all the epilogues in the books that we have read
And in the face of every criminal
Strapped firmly to a chair
We must stare, we must stare, we must stare

We must take all of the medicines too expensive now to sell
Set fire to the preacher who is promising us hell
And in the ear of every anarchist that sleeps but doesn't dream
We must sing, we must sing, we must sing

It'll go like this:

While my mother waters plants
My father loads his guns
He says death will give us back to God
Just like this setting sun is returned to this lonesome ocean

And then they splashed into the deep blue sea
It was a wonderful splash

We must blend into the choir
Sing as static with the whole
We must memorize nine numbers and deny we have a soul
And in this endless race for property and privilege to be won
We must run, we must run, we must run

We must hang up in the belfry
Where the bats and moonlight laugh
We must stare into a crystal ball and only see the past
And in the caverns of tomorrow
With just our flashlights and our love
We must plunge, we must plunge, we must plunge

And then we'll get down there, way down to the very bottom of everything
And then we'll see it, oh we'll see it, we'll see it, we'll see it

Oh my morning's coming back
The whole world's waking up
All the city buses swimming past
I'm happy just because
I found out I am really no one

Two previously unreleased White Stripes tracks surface online – audio

Two previously unreleased tracks from The White Stripes have begun to circulate online.

The tracks, which you can hear by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking, are 'Signed DC and 'I've Been Loving You Too Long'. Both tracks are covers, the first of Love's track from their 1966 debut album and the latter of Otis Redding's classic single from the previous year.

Both songs were pressed on limited seven-inch vinyl as part of Jack White's Third Man Recordings' exclusive series of From The Vault releases, made available to 'platinum' subscribers, but have now been placed online.
The tracks represent the first of a series of releases of previously unheard material, which Jack White indicated he would be putting out after the duo announced they were parting ways in February earlier this year.

White announced yesterday (July 12) that the latest music to be released on Third Man Recordings will be two tracks from rapper Black Milk on which he himself has acted as co-producer, also playing drums and guitar.
