Kasabian, Noel Gallagher and Radiohead named early favourites for 2012 Mercury Prize
Kasabian, Noel Gallagher and Radiohead have been named as early favourites for the 2012 Mercury Prize by bookmakers.
William Hill has published an extremely early list of potential nominees for the prize in 2012, with the Leicester band's fourth album 'Velociraptor!' named as the favourite, just ahead of the former Oasis man's solo debut 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds'.
Other artists named with short odds are Florence And The Machine, whose second album is due in November, Coldplay's fifth album 'Mylo Xyloto' and Mumford and Sons' forthcoming second album.
Radiohead are also ranked third favourites at 8/1, despite having only released their latest studio album 'The King Of Limbs' earlier this year and strong rumours that they will be touring in the coming months rather than recording new material.
PJ Harvey won the Barclaycard Mercury Prize for a second time on Tuesday night (September 6), taking the £20,000 cheque for her album 'Let England Shake'.
The odds for the Mercury Prize in 2012 are as follows:
Kasabian (7/1)
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (8/1)
Radiohead (8/1)
Ed Sheeran (10/1)
Florence And The Machine (10/1)
Coldplay (12/1)
Mumford & Sons (16/1)
Rizzle Kicks (20/1)
Example (20/1)
Calvin Harris (20/1)
Wretch 32 (25/1)
Laura Marling (25/1)
Miles Kane (25/1)
Elbow (33/1)
All The Young (33/1)
Jessie J (33/1)
Professor Green (50/1)
Hard-Fi (66/1)
Charlie Simpson (80/1)

Noel Gallagher - The Death Of You And Me (new song - video + lyrics)
The Chief is back with a great song, "The Death Of You And Me". You can listen to this new song and watch the video below.
High tide, summer in the city,
The kids are looking pretty,
But isn't it a pity,
That the sunshine is followed by thunder,
And thoughts of going under,
And is it any wonder,
When is calling out to me.
I seem to spend my whole life running,
From people who would be,
The death of you and me,
'Cause I can feel the storm clouds,
Sucking up my soul.
High tide, life is getting faster,
No one has the answer,
I try to face the day now in a new way
The bottom of the bottom
'Cause every man's a puzzle
The bottom of the bottom
'Cause every man's a puzzle
Let's run away together you and me,
Forever we'd be free,
Free to spend our whole lives running,
From people who would be,
The death of you and me,
'Cause I can feel the storm clouds,
Sucking up my soul.
Let's run away to sea,
Forever we'd be free,
Free to spend our whole lives running,
From people who would be,
The death of you and me,
'Cause I can feel the storm clouds coming.
I'm watching my TV,
Or is it watching me?
I see another new day dawning,
It's rising over me, with my mortality,
And I can feel the storm clouds,
Sucking up my soul.
Forever we'd be free,
Free to spend our whole lives running,
From people who would be,
The death of you and me,
'Cause I can feel the storm clouds,
Sucking up my soul.
Let's run away to sea,
Forever we'd be free,
Free to spend our whole lives running,
From people who would be,
The death of you and me,
'Cause I can feel the storm clouds coming.

Or is it watching me?
I see another new day dawning,
It's rising over me, with my mortality,
And I can feel the storm clouds,
Sucking up my soul.

Noel Gallagher: 'Amorphous Androgynous collaboration is fucking far out'
Noel Gallagher has admitted that his second solo album, which is due for release next summer, is "fucking far out."
The album, which doesn’t have a title as yet, is a collaboration with psychedelic collective Amorphous Androgynous and the ex-Oasis man has said that it takes in genres that he would have stayed well clear of in his days with his former band.
Speaking at a press conference to launch his solo career yesterday (July 6), he said of the album: "It’s fucking far out. It’s got like 18 tracks on it, some of it's kraut rock, some of it's soul, some of it's funk and that’s just the first song."
Gallagher added that he would not be playing any songs from the album on his October tour, choosing instead to focus on material from his first solo album 'Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds' and on Oasis songs.
He said of playing his second solo album live: "The second album’s not going to come out until as I understand it next summer anyway and I stress again that it's far out. I don’t really want to put the kids through it at the moment."
The guitarist’s first solo album will be released on October 17, he tours the UK and Ireland a week later.

Noel Gallagher in talks to write Manchester City's FA Cup Final song
Noel Gallagher has hinted that he's going to write Manchester City's FA Cup Final charity song.
The former Oasis leader said the Eastlands club called him recently to "bounce a few ideas" off him about a "Band Aid-style" tune.
"If they asked seriously I don’t know. Let’s wait till they ask," the guitarist told the Daily Star Sunday.
The newspaper quoted a City 'source' who said having Gallagher involved in the song would make "a lot of sense".
Ex-Smiths and Cribs guitarist Johnny Marr and former boxer Ricky Hatton are among the other Blues thought to be in line to appear on the track.
City's opponents in the May 15 Wembley Stadium showpiece Stoke City are also apparently in talks with Tom Jones to sing their own ditty.
The Potters want the Welsh singer to revamp his 1968 track 'Delilah, which is a favourite among their fans.
A spokesman for the club commented: "The song is sung by supporters at every game, home and away, and in particular when we score a goal."
