[Review] The National - High Violet (English)

With their fifth album, The National continues to surprise and releasing great albums. "High Violet" is probably their best album since "Alligator", from 2005.

This album begins with "Terrible Love," a song that was criticized for the way it was recorded. Nevertheless, it is a great song that gets even better when it’s played live. Then come "Sorrow" and "Anyone's Ghost," both great songs, although with slightly sad lyrics, while "Little Faith" is a song that conveys some hope. Then comes "Afraid Of Everyone" with enigmatic lyrics, although we can realize that this song is a strong criticism of the media: "Venom radio and venom television, I'm afraid of everyone."

After this, come the best two songs on the album, "Bloodbuzz Ohio", which was described by the website "One Thirty BPM" as the simplest, but at the same time more powerful moment of the album, and "Lemonworld. About this song, singer Matt Berninger said: "Lemonworld is an invented, sexy, weird place where you can escape from New York."

Then comes the calm "Runaway" and the brilliant "Conversation 16," a song about youth. For me, it’s other great moment of "High Violet."

This album ends with "England" and "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks," a perfect song to end this "High Violet," which was undoubtedly one of the great albums of 2010.

9/10
