Arctic Monkeys live at Don Valley Bowl, Sheffield

Arctic Monkeys triumphed at the first of their two homecoming gigs in Sheffield last night (June 10).

Performing in a specially-constructed tent at the city's Don Valley Bowl, the band played five songs from their new album 'Suck It And See', which was released on Monday (6) and looks set to go to Number One on Sunday (12).

Recent single 'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair' was among the tracks given an airing, alongside 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala', 'She's Thunderstorms', 'That's Where You're Wrong' and 'Library Pictures'.

"Let's start from the beginning," frontman Alex Turner told the crowd as the band kicked off the career-spanning set with 'The View From The Afternoon', the opening track of their 2006 debut 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'. The band also reintroduced fan favourite 'Mardy Bum' into the set, which Turner described as "an old song we haven't played for a long time".

After the crowd joined in with the traditional singalong, the singer added: "You've always been much better at singing that than me". Elsewhere, the band fired through hits such as 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', 'Cornerstone' and 'Crying Lightning'.

Later, support act Miles Kane joined the band onstage to play guitar during main set-closer '505'. Turner describing his The Last Shadow Puppets bandmate as "my fucking hero" as he took to the stage.

The band then wrapped up with an encore of 'When The Sun Goes Down', 'Fluorescent Adolescent' and 'A Certain Romance', other song that hasn't been played since the "Favourite Worst Nightmare" tour.
