Talking on the first day of the Isle Of Wight Festival (June 10), The Courteeners' Liam Fray has said that band's follow-up to their 2010 album 'Falcon' will see them take a break from their signature sound.
The band toured the UK last December, playing their biggest show to date at Manchester's MEN Arena. They then took a break for Christmas before starting work on the new tracks, Fray told NME.
"We've done a few songs for the new record, six or seven, it's going really well but I don't really know where it's going yet," said the singer. "Instead of going in with acoustic versions like I did with 'Falcon', I've been building it up and getting drum beats and bass parts down before we go into the studio. The results are pretty good, it feels bigger, heavier."
He added: "'Falcon' wasn't particularly enjoyable to write. It was great to record and amazing to play but it wasn't really enjoyable writing it. So I'm going to let my hair down a little bit."
The band played a ten-song set at the festival, including hits 'Not Nineteen Forever' and 'Scratch Your Name Upon My Lips', to a rain-drenched crowd as the weather turned torrential. Fray spoke to his fans before closing their set with 'What Took You So Long?', saying: "An absolute colossal fucking thank you for coming out in the rain, to every single one of you."
