[Review] Noah And The Whale - "Last Night On Earth" (English)

At their third album, Noah And The Whale continue to evolve. After two great albums, this "Last Night On Earth" is probably his best album to date.

This British band has been gradually moving away from their early style, more "indie", to adopt a sound more "mature" though, of course, without forgetting their origins. And that's exactly what is perceived by hearing this album.

"Last Night On Earth" begins with "Life is Life", which gives the idea that this album will have a more "electronic" with the use of synthesizers.

Then come "Tonight's The Kind Of Night" and "L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.", two beautiful songs, especially the second one which was the debut single from this album and the song also responsible for the disc's name, with this lyrics: “On my last night on earth, I won't look to the sky/ Just breathe in the air and blink in the light/ On my last night on earth, I'll pay a high price/ To have no regrets and be done with my life”

"Wild Thing ", a song about a possible passion of Charlie Fink, lead singer of the band, is followed by "Give It All Back" and "Just Before We Met", which are, without a doubt, the most "indie" songs in this album, recalling the days of "Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down. "

"Paradise Stars" stands for "Last Night On Earth" just as "Instrumental I " and "Instrumental II" are for "The First Days Of Spring", the band's second album. Any of these songs didn’t add anything to any of these albums, so they are quite unnecessary.

"Waiting For My Chance To Come" retakes the great songs on this album and is followed by what is probably the best song on "Last Night On Earth", "The Line" with lyrics quite deep, as we have had familiar with their previous album.

The album ends with "Old Joy", a very calm song and with a great gospel choir, to accompany Charlie Fink and give a special touch to this perfect song to end an excellent album.

8.5/10
